This course will explore the history of racquet sports.  We will delve into the history of our global society’s fascination with games that involve interaction with people’s historic relationship with moving objects and its evolution into today’s racquet sports.  We will explore ancient societal games that involve throwing, catching, and hitting objects and today’s popular and esoteric racquet sports: court tennis, hard racquets, squash rackets, squash tennis, paddle (POP) tennis, table tennis, platform tennis, badminton, paddle ball (one wall & four wall), racquet ball, beach ball, and pickle ball.  And it doesn’t stop there.  There are more machinations of racquet sports than you can shake a stick (or racquet) at.  We will seek to answer the questions: Why are people fascinated with racquet sports? Why are these types of sports so popular? There is a $20 materials fee due the first class.
